Wedding Memorabilia Box

I know most my content has been wedding-related recently, but there’s so much creative stuff to show! I had been wanting to get some sort of box to hold our of our wedding memorabilia. It’s nice to have everything in one place, so we can easily reminisce in the future or have it all handy to show our friends and family when they come over. Most of the options of buying something customized like this were fairly pricey, in the $$$’s at least. Having just spent a lot of money on the wedding and being in the process of buying a house, I went for the more cost effective route, DIY!

I bought this sweet chest on Facebook marketplace for $20. It’s about 2 feet long by 1 foot deep. Perfect for the items I wanted to put in.

I sanded it down a bit and gave it one coat of white paint that I have already used on various other projects. (Remember the end table?) The wood’s texture and one coat gave it a nice rustic look.

Did the lettering myself, in navy blue sharpie.

Voila! Perfect to hold our albums, invites, RSVP’s, save the dates, my garter and his dried boutonniere, amongst all of our cards and various other odds and ends. Love it!

A Designer’s Wedding

Well I’ve been married a little over a month now, so I thought it was about time I shared the things I made for my own big day. The list of possibilities are endless for DIY weddings, but I had to reign it in at invitations, bulletins, a website, favors, and corn-hole. Check out the final invitations and favors below and see our website at www.freymanwedding.com

Creating Cornhole

Well its officially 1 month before my wedding day, and my Fiance and I had been planning on making Cornhole bean bag toss games for our guests to enjoy during cocktail hour and the reception. We finally tackled that project this past weekend, and it sure was time consuming! See a few pictures of the process below. Mike built it and I did the painting and staining. Already building our team working skills 🙂

Flash Friday: A Rejected Identity

Happy beautiful Friday: it’s 75 degrees in February, surely can’t complain about that.
Ending the week with some branding identity. The client didn’t end up going with this one, but I’m a fan of it, so I thought I would show it off anyway.

2016, A Year in Review

As the last few days of the year are winding down, it’s always a good time for some reflection on the past 12 months and the projects I’ve completed during them. Below are a few of my favorites:

KSTG Website
Website created for transportation company.

Above Standard Tile Logo Development
Sometimes the coolest projects you end up getting in the least expected places. I developed a logo for a Flooring company that prides itself on the standard in which they produce their work. Symmetric shapes are the foundation for the concept of this logo design.

Pokegress Coin
Commemorative coin created for the gaming community that plays Ingress and now Pokemon go. Ingressers were the pioneers of ARG and this coin was widely sold to those who have weathered the seasons of the change in gaming. Coin is still available for sale here.

Vanscoy.com Website Design
Clean, functional website that was designed for a local jewelry store.

Happy New Year and here’s to a bunch of great new projects in 2017!

A New Old Chair

Every kid grew up with that chair. You know, when you walked home from school and slung off your backpack; the one you plopped down into and watched the 4pm episode of Gilmore Girls on. The one you stayed up until the wee hours playing Spyro The Dragon on PS1 in. The one that was directly beside the family desktop computer, where you had to be home from school quickly so you could get on AIM to message the friends you JUST left at school. Yeah. This was that chair for me.

My parent’s bought it, along with two other sofas of the same pattern shortly after we moved to the house I grew up in, around April of 1998. I was about 7 years old then. So, when my mom decided she wanted to finally replace it a few weeks ago (almost two decades later), I can hardly blame her, but I couldn’t help but feel a bit of sadness. I grew up on that chair.

So, as most great journeys and adventures begin, it started with a google search for “reupholstering an armchair”.

One last shot of the chair in it’s original habitat. Since I graduated highschool, went through college and subsequently moved out, Mia has taken my place in making sure the chair gets used. Structurally it is still very sound. However the fabric was tearing at the arm, cushion was ripped and frankly smelled like dog.

The chair finally made it to my apartment. 90’s floral pattern…so not in right now.

Huntley was my mom’s before I brought him to live with me. After much sniffing he remembered the chair and sat on it exactly like he used to.

DAY 1: DE-UPHOLSTERING

img_20161105_133350

Saturday I spent almost 5 hours pulling out what felt like thousands of staples. This was by far the hardest part of this whole process, physically and time consuming wise. It’s imperative to get the pieces of fabric off without ripping, because they are the pattern when cutting new fabric.

img_20161105_141205

Amongst the treasures buried deep inside the chair: A cat nail from god knows what cat. (seven have come in contact with that chair in the past 20 years), regurgitated dog food, and the WINNER: an Oreo-O cereal piece, which I haven’t eaten in a solid 15 years. Yummy.

At the end of the day I had a completely naked chair. The padding was still in pretty good condition.

DAY 2: RE-UPHOLSTERING

I had bought myself a sowing machine when I figured out I would be attempting this project. Even if I botched the chair, I figured it would be a good thing to have. The bad news is I hadn’t used one since Home-Ec class in 8th grade….over a decade ago. (that hurts to say) Even then, we only made pillows, so I was pretty unsure about it.

img_20161106_130909

Luckily, only the bottom fabric and the arms had to be sown. The bottom fabric in a straight line, which was fairly easy. The arms however where very difficult, but I think they turned out okay.

FINISHED

So, now I have a new chair that comes with a whole lot of memories, for a fairly low price. I’m super happy I decided to take on this project. Once Mike and I have a house and I have more space to work this is definitely something I could get into doing.

DAY 3: RELAX

Now it’s Monday morning and Huntley and I spent some time relaxing in our new chair until it’s time to get to work. Thanks for reading!

New Logo Development

Another few months have gone by. I’ve been busy working on a few new projects, including a couple logo designs that I want to share today!

First up, a brand new start-up company that creates awesome pieces of decorated metals. The client in this case knew pretty much exactly what they wanted. I just had to work out the kinks.

Next project was for a company that specializes in flooring & tile. Geometric graphics were used to create the lettering, which is representative of the tiling and flooring services this company provides. When the letterforms are organized vertically, it resembles an arrow pointing upwards. This is a great symbolization of the quality of work being above standard.

Pokemon loGo

The long awaited release of Pokemon Go finally happened almost a week ago.
I’ve been pretty psyched about it since Niantic announced it last winter. Even more psyched when I was chosen to be a beta tester at the end of May.

Server load has made the game unplayable at times, which is frustrating, but overall I’m still excited to partake in this adventure. I chose Team Valor, due to my inner child always choosing Charmander as my starter. Fire forever. I noticed the Valor team logo was, well, rougher than the other two team logos. It didn’t seem to fit as well with the smooth edges of Team Mystic and Instinct. So, of course I had to fix that.
